Weapons on School Property – Two new laws passed that affect one’s ability to carry a weapon onto school property. The first allows adults to carry a pocketknife on school property while voting in elections, so long as the knife always remains concealed, and the school is their designated polling place. The second law allows retired federal, state, or local law enforcement officers who served for at least 20 years, retired in good standing, and who are now employed at a public institution of higher education to carry weapons on school property. Present law already includes exemptions for employees who have an enhanced handgun carry permit to carry weapons on school property, this new law simply adds retired law enforcement to those exemptions.
