Dekalb County, Tennessee lies adjacent to Wilson County on its southeast border and is part of the Thirteenth Judicial District. General Sessions Court is held in the County seat of Smithville, Tennessee. The court system there is populated with arrests not only from the Dekalb County Sheriff’s Office but also the Smithville and Alexandria Police Departments who operate autonomously from the Dekalb County Sheriff’s Department but their cases are adjudicated in the Dekalb County General Sessions Court and the Thirteenth District Criminal Court. I have practiced within the district for over 30 years, most of which was under former General Sessions Judge Butch Cook and now by Judge Brandon Cox. The District Attorney General for the Thirteenth Judicial District is Bryan Dunaway but Dekalb County is primarily handled by long time assistant Greg Strong. General Strong is a very experienced and practical prosecutor who is honorable and always good to his word, in addition to being an excellent attorney.

Other Counties served by the Thirteenth Judicial District include Putnam, Cumberland and White County. The Criminal Court Judges for the district include newly appointed judge Wesley Bray and Judge Gary McKenzie both of whom are courteous and respectful. Our firm tends to have very positive results in Dekalb County. The County while populated with quality attornys, most whom do not have the luxury of being able specialize in Criminal law nor have the staff our firm is blessed to have, often giving us an advantage of a specialization not usually found in the Court system.

There are some oddities about Dekalb County that make it unique. The first is the makeup of the county. The vast majority of the county is very rural, with a large population of rural residents but within  the beautiful Center Hill Lake is a small but well represented population of wealthy citizens many of whom have retired to the area or part the music and artistic community that has grown around the lake.

The second is its bail bonding system. One will find bail is often three times that of surrounding counties with a DUI bond commonly as high as $6,000.00 and drug felonies of any nature likely to surpass $50,000.00.

If it is a matter of a serious nature, please call for representation. My firm is well known by all the prosecutors and Judges in the district.
