What Happens If I'm Convicted Of This Crime?

Criminal Defense Attorney Frank LannomOne of the first questions i am asked when meeting with a citizen accused of a crime is "what is going to happen to me?" Sometimes they want to tell me about what happened to someone they know who was charged or convicted of the same type of case. It's normal to want to identify with someone who has been through something similar to you, but chances are I've represented people charged with a crime similar to yours so I'm well acquainted with what "could" happen to you if you are convicted and also in how to try to mitigate those possibilities in every possible positive way.

Now, while we cannot predict how any individual case can turn out, we do know what you face under Tennessee laws if you are convicted of that crime. In addition to set fines and possible jail times, there are many consequences of a conviction that you may not be aware of, for instance:

  1. Did you know that if you are convicted of a felony, that you are prohibited from owning a "potentially" vicious dog, a dog that has not been spayed or neutered, or a dog that has not been microchipped?
  2. Did you know that if you are convicted of child support violations, that the state can deny, suspend, or revoke your occupational/business/recreational/driver's license?
  3. Did you know that if you are convicted of "any felony; Crimes of violence, including "person offenses"; Controlled substances offenses; Motor vehicle offenses", you could lose your Commercial Drivers License or be prevented from taking the test?

People are usually focused on "how much will this cost me" and "will I go to jail" when they are facing a criminal charge. But the above are just a few of the many consequences that you could face for years, if not a lifetime, after your case is long behind you. To see what other consequences could await you after conviction of a crime in Tennessee, visit http://www.abacollateralconsequences.org/. Click through the main page and select Tennessee, then you can type in an offense and see a list of Tennessee laws detailing all the consequences of a conviction.

This is where I come in. No one can guarantee you a certain outcome on your charge, but I can promise you that you will get aggressive and experienced defense from me and my associates, as well as the services of an experienced and thorough investigator and paralegals. We will work for the best possible outcome for you. It's what we do everyday for our clients and it's what we are passionate about.
